My writing is a filthy addiction.
I am forced to take jobs of the most menial nature in order to finance the habit.
For several years I prostituted my soul and produced vast quantities of slushy stuff (stories and serials) for women’s magazines in the UK and Scandinavia. I became quite skilled at this - my quickest story was written in 45 minutes flat when BT got agitated about a phone bill - but stopped abruptly when I started receiving fan mail from respectable old grannies. The idea was to eke out student loans whilst studying for a BA at Dartington College. Once started on the education thing I couldn’t stop and for no good reason ploughed on through a MA in Creative Writing (Plymouth University), and part of a PhD, which I’m half-heartedly thinking about completing for the sake of the funny hat. And the title… Dr Liza has comic possibilities.
Stories published in QWF, ABC Tales (the first one, alongside a piece by Mo Mowlam!), Mslexia, Gloucestershire Life, For Women, Acclaim, Active Life, and coming soon, Thirteen, Midnight Street, and three stories in Strange Pleasures. On line, there’s work on Whispers of Wickedness, Pulp, Storyteller, ABC Tales, the-phone-book.com. Work also in the following anthologies: The Minotaur in Pamplona, two stories in ‘Loffing Matters’ (Tindal Press), and in various collections published by Accent Press.
Winner of various several competitions, including 2 BBC local, Writers West, Waterstones, QWF, and was twice short-listed for the Ian St. James Award. I’ve had two stories read on BBC local radio.
The short-lived Bastard Books published my novella, ‘Baiting The Unicorn’, together with a collection of short stories in 2002. Flame Books published‘ Curing The Pig’ in October 2003. A Chapbook ‘Whispers in the Dark’ is to be published shortly by D-press. Immanion Press are to publish 2 novels: ‘The Crack of Doom’ and ‘Until The Skies Fall’.
That’s about it for now. The rest I’m keeping secret until it’s signed up.
