I loved

Wes Clarkson

i loved you for a long

long time

through all of life’s troubles

helping you make bold decisions

and deal with life’s problems

we seemed so happy

so relaxed in each others arms

enjoying a sunset

a dinner for two

a night on the town

a trip to timbucktoo

i thought you were the love of my life

the one

you know the idea

the one who would complete me

my soul mate

my forever love

with whom i would spend eternity

but then we seemed to draw apart

distant

disturbingly separate

apart from each other

so far away from each other

that we could not seem to connect

even in bed

i never knew exactly why

nothing really happened

there were no real fights

just a slow drifting

with gradual approaches

and sudden unexplained distances

it just

happened

now i’m sitting here

listening to melancholy music

that reminds me

of every lost relationship

every former love

every broken bond in my life

and it’s hard to put things straight in my head

because I really loved you

i cared

i wanted the best for you

and

it’s hard to let go

to admit that it’s over

to say good bye

and

forget what we had

but forget

i never will

i loved you

i love you
