Get a lack, the billboards said,
You need a lack at this point in your life.
And so, to show we were not out of kilter with the times,
We got a lack.
It cost a child.
Our only, fair exchange for all that lack.
They smiled and said she’d barely feel a thing.
We got a lack.
We moved it in.
Epicentred it in what was once her room.
It hollows spaces in the place where feelings are,
Then fills with lack.
Get a lack, the billboards say,
You need a lack at this point in your life.
Why wait on Fate to make you incomplete?
Get a lack.
